A complete downgrade by FU EA
The inability to directly open links from the timeline, plus the inability to browse the timeline while links load make this a huge step backward from the previous versions. What is twitter thinking lately? I gave it two stars because it is at least stable and things do seem to load a bit faster, but what was once a very useful client is now basically broken. And I’m reluctant to spend money on a third-party client, as twitter seems intent on eventually locking them all out. Again, what are they thinking?
Not impressed… by Mpdrew
I was pleased with the previous version. This update took a step back in my opinion.
i dont like it, v5 by aruffr13
with the old version i was be able to watch a webpage and see all tweets on the left.. but now when i open a link just open a full view of the web page. I don’t like.
Some of the things which Twitter say are new in version 5 are:
You can expand tweets with a single touch to see photo’s and media,
See who has followed, mentioned, retweeted or favourited your tweets,
See which accounts or tweets are favourited by your friends,
SoundGecko (www.SoundGecko.com) is a new app for the iPhone, it takes any website and converts the text to speech. It’s a great app for when you are out walking or driving to work and you don’t want to read a lot of text, so why not convert it to speech!
You can convert the website text to speech in two easy ways. Email the Link or use the Chrome Applet, Heres how to convert it:
Email the link:
Locate the webpage you are wanting to read,
Copy the URL (web address – e.g. www.domain-name.com/page.html) into a new email,
Email receipts can be sent to you to confirm your recordings, these will be sent to the account which you have signed up with. You can turn this service on or off within the preferences tab on the SoundGecko website.
SoundGecko does a really great job at encoding text to speech and sounds quiet natural too.
From reading the SoundGecko website, the service is currently free at the moment but they are developing more functions and later on, this will turn into a paid service. Even if it was a paid service, i would look at paying for it. I wish i had something which was this easy for me to use when i was at university, all those websites i had to read over and over to study for exams, this site would have come in handy. Now, i am always surfing the net as part of my job, this is going to make my job a lot easier!
SoundGeck just announce an update with the following details:
NEW: Added a popular tab to see trending articles which other customers are listening too.
NEW: playlists items are grouped by days
FIXED: iPad now correctly shows main screen
FIXED: Playlist being cut off at the bottom
FIXED: Listen state’s not being remembered if you refresh during playback
CHANGED: When re-opening the app after inactivity, we now only refresh if its been an hour or longer (instead of 5 minutes). You can “pull to refresh” the table to reload immediately.
CHANGED: You no longer need an account to start using the application (by trying the Popular articles section)
CHANGED: Cache link icons across application restarts
CHANGED: Gracefully handle connection failures by clearing loading screens on the UI and allowing the user to re-try a refresh when connectivity is available
CHANGED: Whiten and underline the “Find out more / Register” links found on the Login / Get Started screen
CHANGED: After a network playback error, don’t automatically move to the next item in the list
CHANGED: Adjusted the toolbar header colour to match the SoundGecko colour swatch
and guess what, SoundGEcko are listening to customer suggestions… so if you want to improve it, let them know, email them at go@soundgecko.com or Follow @soundgecko
Twitter is a social media platform that allows users to post messages of up to 140 characters. These messages are then sent to whoever happens to be following your feed. There are many reasons why a person would want to use a service such as Twitter.
Social Media Helps Connect You
Using a social media site such as Twitter allows you to connect with others who think like you. For example, say you were a lawyer. You could follow other lawyers, judges and anyone else who was an expert in the legal profession. In return, these people would then follow your feed. Those who follow you could send you links, direct messages regarding job opportunities or just have a conversation about current events.
Spread The Word About Something Big
You will notice that there are certain words and phrases that are trending. A trending topic is something that many people are talking about at the same time. It could be that a celebrity died, the Supreme Court issued an important ruling or another anticipated event was taking place.
If you want to join in the conversation, you can use a hash tag next to your message. For example, you could put the # symbol next to a certain word or phrase to help get it noticed. Anyone who types that word or phrase into the search bar will see your message among thousands of others.
Why 140 Characters
Why can’t your messages be 142 characters? The answer to that lies in the fact that Twitter was designed to be like a text messaging service for the world. The standard text message on a cell phone is 140 characters long. However, you can compress your link using different link condensing services. There are also third-party services that allow you to exceed the limit.
How Do I Sign Up
Signing up for a Twitter account is easy. All you need to do is provide your name, email address and a username. You will then click on a confirmation link sent to the email address that you have provided. Once you click the link, you are all set to start using the service.Using Twitter is a fun and unique experience. It allows you to talk to others around the world from the comfort of your own home. Social media allows you to grow your professional network, connect with others to advance social causes or just be social. How you use it is all up to you.
